Back in October 2011, Tom was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. His family didn’t dare to consider the end of a long treatment journey but they are now 6 weeks away from the end of treatment. We all look forward now to seeing Tom receive his End of Treatment Purple Heart.

Tom is a massive inspiration to his family and friends and back in the summer, this inspiration shone through when 18 family, friends and Grandad decided to take on a major challenge and climb up Snowdon.

Well….they did it, raising a massive £4,705.30!! Here is their fundraising page and this was added to with a donation from Barclays Bank of £1,000.00. These funds will continue to support the Beads of Courage programme at Alder Hey. Each member of the team carried a special Act of Courage bead and these beads have been given to children currently on treatment.

Tom was introduced to Beads of Courage, a programme that records every single treatment that Tom receives. His Mom Ruth says “at this point, Tom is a little too young to understand the full implication of these beads, but one day when he IS old enough to understand, I look forward to explaining to him just how proud we ALL are of him!”

BCCA are very proud of the enormous challenge undertaken by this amazing team and to each and every one of them, on behalf of all the children and families at Alder Hey who will continue to receive Beads of Courage, a massive “thank you!!!”

We’d also like to give a special mention to Tom’s nana Vera who walked up and down Snowdon at the age of 70!!
