Swimathon

Ted’s Swimathon

Ted Drummond was diagnosed with infantile acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when he was just 6 months old. He will be fronting a swimathon on June 5th 2010 from 12pm, to be held at his local swimming pool in Wickford Essex.

The aim is to swim the equivalent distance of the width of the English Channel, which in a 25m pool is roughly 1360 lengths.

Ted will open the event by swimming the first length in his armbands, and then we have support from the local community, including the firemen, Ted’s nurses, school friends of his siblings, and many more. If you would like to sponsor Ted you can do so here.

Ted has his own fundraising page – please sponsor Ted here

How can you help?

If you are a competent swimmer and would like to swim, we are asking that each individual raise a minimum of £5 sponsorship. If you can’t swim but would like to offer time, we also need lane counters and people to assist with serving refreshments. If you are unable to make it to the event, you could sponsor Ted for swimming his length or make a donation straight to the campaign.

If you are a local business or entertainer that could offer your services on the day, from balloons, face painting, children’s entertainer, refreshments, or anything that could be used as prizes then also please get in touch.

We want the event to be fun for all involved and to build up some community spirit, as well as raising desperately needed funds to drive the campaign, and raise the awareness of childhood cancers.

The evening echo will be covering the event, and Ted has already appeared in there twice now advertising the date. Channel 5 news have shown interest in possibly covering the event on the day too, as Ted has already appeared on their 5pm news slot.

All money raised will go straight to the charity.
