April 2013

Welcome to our members of the month
April 2013

Bethan

Bethan’s mum Lynne has said about her and her Beads of Courage. Bethan was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in her left humerus in February 2012. Bethan quickly came to love herbeads, and they helped me and the nurses get her through each small distressing step of this last year. She proudly shows anyone who asks and she knows what each colour signifies, it’s her journey in a rainbow of colours! Her beads will be the only reminder we want to keep out in the house, and I feel when she gets older she truly will realise through her beads how much she coped with and what an amazing little girl she is…to date she has 784 beads and is hoping to make it to 800 before her line is removed!

Jonah

Jonah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma with opsoclonus myoclonus in Dec 2007, and his mum Rachel had this to say about him.
“Jonah has always been a tricky customer as his tumour has never behaved in the way anyone expected it to. He has undergone 3 major surgeries, 2 different port placements and 2 lots of chemotherapy treatments, as well as many overnight stays in our local hospital.
Jonah’s latest operation lasted 8 hours and has left him with the biggest wound. He is doing amazingly well and has not once complained about the pain from the operation. We love the beads and Jonah is often asking what each one stands for. We also find that Jonah’s brothers and sister enjoy looking at and understanding the beads as well.

Thank you BCCA for all the beads. They are a great tool.”
